Commander

The Post Commander is the key officer of the Post. He, alone, represents the judicial branch of the organization and also has some of the responsibilities of the executive branch. He presides at all meetings, enforces the rules, appoints committees not otherwise provided for, and makes certain that the other officers and committeemen perform their duties.

His authority extends to the Post Home or Club to the extent of enforcing the rules of the Post and the National and Department VFW, and public laws. He represents the authority of the Post between meetings, and his voice is that of the Post membership. He sees that the Post Trustees conduct their audits, that the Post Quartermaster is bonded, and that the House Committee properly supervises the activities of the Post Home.

Senior Vice Commander

The Post Senior Vice Commander shall assist the Commander in preserving order, preside in the absence of the Commander, provide such advice or assistance as may be required and perform such other duties as are usually incident to such office or may from time to time be required by the laws and usages of the organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

Junior Vice Commander

The Post Junior Vice Commander shall assist the Commander in preserving order, preside in the absence of the Commander and Senior Vice Commander, provide such advice or assistance as may be required and perform such other duties as are usually incident to such office or may from time to time be required of him by the laws and usages of the organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

Quarter Master

The Post Quartermaster is the chief financial officer of the Post. The Quartermaster is the custodian of all Post property and the officer responsible for safeguarding Post funds and property. The Quartermaster is accountable to the Post, Department and the National Organization for all of the monies, securities, vouchers and property of the Post. The Quartermaster is the only one authorized under the By-Laws, to receive, handle, disburse and account for funds of the Post.

Adjutant

The Post looks to the Post Adjutant to keep the Post’s house in order. The Adjutant is the executive officer of the Post and primary advisor to the Commander.

Service Officer

The Post Service Officer shall assist members of the Post, their widows and orphans and other worthy cases brought to their attention in obtaining rightful benefits from the federal and state governments, in the preparation of the proper forms for applying for such benefits and in assembling evidence required in connection therewith. The work of a Service Officer shall be performed in accordance with the instructions contained in the VFW Guide for Post Service Officers under the general supervision of the Department Service Officer. He shall perform such other duties as may be usually incident to the office or as may from time to time be required of him by the laws and usages of this organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

Chaplain

The Post Chaplain shall be chairman of the Visiting Committee of the Post. He shall, with the assistance of such other members as may be appointed by the Commander, visit the sick and disabled members of the Post and make a report to the Post concerning same. He shall perform such other duties as are usually incident to the office or as may from time to time be required of him by the laws and usages of this organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

Surgeon

The Post Surgeon shall be the chairman of the Health Committee and, with the assistance of such others as may be appointed by the Commander; he shall promote and put into effect health programs for the benefit of his Post and the community. He shall perform such other duties as are usually incident to the office or as may from time to time be required of him by the laws and usages of this organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

Judge Advocate

The Post Judge Advocate shall give the Post Commander such legal assistance, incident to his office, as he may request, and perform such other duties as may be usually incident to the office or as may from time to time be required of him by the laws and usages of this organization or lawful orders from proper authority.

The purpose of the committee is to act on behalf of the Post in making certain that the club is run in an efficient, reputable and legal manner and that the rules of the Veterans of Foreign Wars are adhered to. It is the general procedure for the House Committee to hire all employees, set their salaries, and issue necessary instructions and orders to the Club Manager.

American Legion Post 408 and VFW Post 7253 of Derby Kansas presented Operation Freedom Memorial with checks totaling nearly $1800 representing fund-raising efforts at both posts during the last several months.

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt April 8th @ 1pm in Hand Park, 633 S. Lakeview, Derby, Ks.The hunt will have three age groups: 0-4, 5-7 and 8-10 years old.
